WHO has supported the project of Cancer Atlas of India and the first report is available for the year 2001-02. This project was under the leadership of Dr. Nandakumar, officer In-charge of National Cancer Registry Programme, ICMR. The finding of the reports are eye opening. Dr. Nandakumar has involved the medical colleges and the pathologists across the country and was able to get information from 82 districts of the country. From Gujarat only 5 districts were covered. It was noticed that there are many differences in the pattern of the cancer in the different part of the country. We want to develop the Atlas of cancer in Gujarat state in the similar line. We will be involving all the pathologists of the Gujarat State who diagnosed cancer microscopically. These pathologists will be from Government Sector, private sector and solo practitioners. Communication channels will be established with all the pathologists through the modern information technology and also through the conventional method of communication. For getting the information, website will be created and pathologists will have opportunity to communicate through net. It is also decided that we will compile the information received every three months and communicate to the pathologists across the state. Special provision will be made to cover the administrative expenses, pathologists have to incur for taking part in the project. Annual meeting of all the participants is also planned. All the scientific publication prepared on the data obtained will acknowledge the list of the participants. Confidentiality of the data will be maintained.
Participating centre will get Rs.10/-per case for administrative expenses.
